Exodus Ministries is an intensive, comprehensive, residential discipleship ministry to single mothers reuniting with their children to achieve a productive and fulfilling life . Exodus provides a loving and structured residential program which allows families the necessary time, resources, and support for them to become productive, well balanced citizens.
The women we serve are not numbers. They are real people, just like the rest of us. That having been said, the recidivism rate for graduates of the 12-month long Exodus Ministries program is zero. None of the graduates in the last four years have recidivated in spite of the recidivism rate for all former women inmates being in excess of 30% after only two years.
"[B]efore I came to Exodus, my life was ashes. A lifetime of poverty, neglect, abuse, drug addiction, alcoholism, and sexual immorality had left me full of mourning and despair."
"When two people from Exodus came to interview me, "they prayed with me, laughed with me, cried with me, and the next day I found out they did something no one had done in a real[ly] long time, they accepted me."
"God has opened many doors for us this year."
"I say thank you from the bottom of my heart for allowing God to use you to turn the ashes of my life into a beautiful crown that I will someday lay at His feet, and for filling a heart that was full of mourning and despair with joy and praise that I will use for the rest of my life to serve God, my Father and to glorify my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ."
A Healing Place
In the Bible, there is a story of a man who had been paralyzed his entire life and was brought to Jesus on a mat for healing. Jesus told the man, "Stand up, pick up your mat, and be healed. In other words, Jesus told him, "Get up, clean up your mess, and be healed." Just as God used Jesus, He uses the Exodus Ministries program to tell us everyday, "Get up, clean up your mess, take your children to school, go to work, pick up your children, go to class, go to church, attend your counseling sessions, do your chore, and be healed."
God loves us so much that He doesn't want us sitting on a mat our entire lives, waiting on healing. He knows that if we never do anything there is no way He can ever thoroughly heal us. He knows that unless we are shown a different path and learn skills to provide us with better options we will be stuck in a mess, making the same bad decisions, and going down the same path that lead us to a jail cell, broken and empty.
I know that when I first came here, I didn't even know that I was in need of healing.
I knew I was in pain, unhappy and bitter because of everything that had happened in my life, but I always blamed other people and expected everyone else to make me happy so I could feel better. After a few weeks here, I realized God doesn't just want me to feel better, He wants me to be better and ultimately better. That is what it means to be thoroughly healed. I also realized that the more I do, the better I feel, and the better I will be.
God is the ultimate and best healer. He knit us together individually therefore He has an intimate knowledge of our needs. Only He can provide exactly what we need when we need it. I am so grateful that even though I didn't know what I needed, once I finally gave Him control of my life, He brought me to a place where I could finally be healed His way and by His people.
