$25,000 Goal

The AHA has grown into the nation's oldest and largest voluntary organization dedicated to fighting heart disease and stroke. A shared focus on cardiovascular health unites our more than 40 million volunteers and supporters as well as our more than 2,800 employees.

Heart disease is the No. 1 killer worldwide, and stroke ranks second globally. Even when those conditions don't result in death, they cause disability and diminish quality of life. We want to see a world free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke.

Our size and scope let us have real impact. The AHA has invested more than $4.6 billion in research, making us the largest not-for-profit funding source for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease research next to the federal government. In Tarrant County we are improving and extending the lives of more than 2 million people by building a culture of health in our community.

We're the nation's leader in CPR education training with over 100,000 Tarrant County adults and teens being trained each year in CPR, AED usage and basic life-saving skills using AHA guidelines, methods and materials.

We help people understand the importance of healthy lifestyle choices though education, company wellness programs and blood pressure monitoring programs. We provide science-based treatment guidelines to healthcare professionals to help them provide quality care to their patients. In addition, we educate lawmakers, policymakers and the public as we advocate for changes to protect and improve the health of our North Texas communities. As a result of our advocacy efforts, thousands of babies born in the area each year will receive mandatory newborn screenings for congenital heart defects and Tarrant County residents will enjoy cleaner air through comprehensive smoke-free ordinances.
