The mission of Patriot PAWS is to train and provide service dogs of the highest quality at no cost to disabled American veterans and others with mobile disabilities in order to help restore their physical and emotional independence. Patriot PAWS intends to build partnerships with national, state and community organizations to help develop and support this goal.
Patriot PAWS is proud to be celebrating the 10th Anniversary of our service dog training partnership with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ). The goal of the program is to teach offenders to help us train service dogs for disabled veterans. Not only do they have an opportunity to give back to society during their incarceration as well as employable vocational skills upon their release. The Patriot PAWS-TDCJ partnership has exceeded all expectations and serves as a model for other programs.
Patriot PAWS also works with Volunteer Puppy Raisers, both in the DFW area and at Texas A&M University in College Station, to help socialize and prepare our service dogs-in-training to meet public access certification standards. Patriot PAWS Aggieland is a university-sanctioned, student-led volunteer club with a membership of over 150 students. Oversight of the program is conducted by a full-time, on-site Patriot PAWS certified trainer, assistant and student moderators. The students live and work with the dogs, both on and off campus, and attend regular training classes conducted by our Aggieland Trainer.
"Being loved by Gus is the greatest gift. He is my best friend and I am grateful every single day to wake up to his happy face. He is my companion in all things and has done more for me than I ever thought possible. Patriot PAWS is the most incredible organization full of the most amazing people, and I am so lucky they welcomed me. Though I can never repay them for their kindness, I am a medical student and my hope is to one day pay this life-changing experience forward to another veteran. I know I still have a long way to go, but with Gus by my side and Patriot PAWS at my back, I look forward to the journey."
