The Dallas Metroplex Musicians Association, an affiliate of the historic National Association of Negro Musicians, promotes the profession of music among local African American musicians, works to preserve the legacy of distinctively African American music such as the Negro Spiritual, and nurtures musical talent by awarding annual scholarships. Founded in 1983, DMMA is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and is supported in part by the City of Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs and the Texas Commission on the Arts.

Our Needs

DMMA awards scholarships to aspiring young musicians in fulfillment of its mission to assist in the development of the next generation of musicians. The recipients have attended such schools as The Cleveland Conservatory, Eastman School of Music, Grambling State University, Howard University, Huston Tillotson University, The Julliard School of Music, Peabody Institute, Southern Methodist University, and other institutions of higher learning across the country. Support is also provided for young musicians to attend music camps such as Interlochen and Apple Hill.

Mission

Our mission is to promote the achievements of African American musicians; develop, showcase, and sponsor young artists; and provide opportunities for performances of all genres of music while preserving the Negro Spiritual, sacred music, and traditional hymns.
