About Us

Founded as a Christian ministry of healing, Baylor Scott & White Health promotes the well-being of all individuals, families and communities.

Since Baylor Scott & White Dallas Foundation was established in 1978, we have distributed more than $950 million to support initiatives across Baylor Scott & White Health to advance this mission.

This generous donor support has a lasting impact on our ability to fund innovative research, train future leaders in healthcare, purchase advanced medical technology and offer programs that enhance care for patients and communities across North Texas.

The Need

Someone in the U.S. develops Alzheimer’s disease every 60 seconds. By 2050 this is projected to be every 33 seconds.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in 2020, as many as 5.8 million Americans were living with Alzheimer’s disease, a progressive disease that destroys memory and other important mental functions.

And yet, it’s a diagnosis that can feel very isolating. Both individuals affected by Alzheimer’s disease and the caregivers who support them need resources to walk through the challenging circumstances they face.

Our Response

Baylor Scott & White AT&T Memory Center is an outpatient program that evaluates patients for memory disorders and provides comprehensive care to the patient and their family. Our compassionate team partners with patients and their families to equip them to navigate this disease through extensive cognitive testing, customized treatment plans, access to clinical trials and an array of resources for the emotional, physical, social, and financial well-being of our patients and their families.

Having a one-stop shop for diagnosis, care, resources and support has proven to be an invaluable model to patients andSandra and Gary Fernandes their families.

Real Impact

Gary Fernandes knew that Alzheimer’s and dementia was a serious issue for families, but when his beloved wife Sandra received a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s, he said it was as if life had “somehow changed completely.” “At that point, you’re shocked with the reality of such a diagnosis, and particularly with a subject about which there’s so little information. It’s one of those things no one wants to talk about,” he lamented. “How many people have you met who say, ‘My loved one has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s?’ No…there’s stigma associated with this diagnosis.”

The dedication and expertise offered by the BSW AT&T Memory Center have improved Sandra’s life and his own, Gary said. “The center made a huge difference by giving Sandra the right medications at the right time.” The progression of Sandra’s symptoms has slowed, and her anxiety and depression— diagnoses that many patients with Alzheimer’s also battle—have been greatly reduced. “While we can’t cure Alzheimer’s, we can make an impact on the symptoms,” Gary said.

The Fernandes family is grateful to have had experienced clinicians to turn to at the BSW Memory Center and feels strongly that this specialty care should be available to anyone battling memory disorders.

How You Can Make a Difference

Every dollar donated translates into care and the importance of philanthropic support cannot be overstated: The need for specialized care today is great and it’s growing as our population grows and our community ages.

Our model is uniquely equipped to provide care for patients and their families who need us now, and for those who will need us in the future. This is where you can join us in making a difference.
