I am writing to share an opportunity for you to provide an enriching program for our Hillcrest IB program.

The International Baccalaureate (IB) is a global leader in international education—developing inquiring, knowledgeable, confident, and caring young people. The programmes empower school-aged students to take ownership in their own learning and help them develop future-ready skills to make a difference and thrive in a world that changes fast.

Hillcrest has 1 of only 2 fully-authorized IB programs in Dallas ISD.  Hillcrest continues to grow their IB program every year.  These schools share a common philosophy - a commitment to high quality, challenging, international education - which Hillcrest High School believes is instrumental for all students and fundamental for our globally bound students.

Our kids are so fortunate to be a part of the Hillcrest International Baccalaureate program under the leadership of Jeri Smith and her amazing team of teachers.

Their unwavering dedication and passion are only a small part of the puzzle that enable a successful IB program at Hillcrest.

Many costs, not covered by Dallas Independent School District, are incurred throughout the year that IB simply does not have funds for.
Just a few of these include:

• InThinking Software, which supports our teachers with professional development and online resources

• Additional miscellaneous academic support needed by teachers and IB staff

• Freshman Camp

• Junior lunches (monthly)

• Junior Lock-in

• Pre-IB Skills class for Sophomores

• Buddy Program

• Senior Retreat

• Senior Dedication Ceremony

• Teacher appreciation events throughout the year

• Socials for IB students and families

• Recruitment

These additional incurred costs not covered by DISD exceed $10,000 per school year.  The bulk of these expenses are for valuable and necessary educational tools utilized by IB educators and students.  The deficit is often covered by teachers as well as family sponsors, on an as-needed basis.  Our hope is that we can fundraise so Ms. Smith can have access to this budget throughout the year, without having to constantly ask for donations.  The funds from North Texas Giving Day are held by the Hillcrest Community Foundation.  The IB Steering Committee, a group of parent volunteers, meet monthly with Ms. Smith to discuss and plan program direction and fund allocation.  We want our kids to benefit from this amazing opportunity.

On this North Texas Giving Day, we implore you to please give what you can to help make the IB Program at Hillcrest run smoothly.  No amount is too big or too small, but we would love 100% participation. All personal and corporate donations are tax deductible.
