The Garland Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program is run through Garland Pawsibilities but surgeries are sponsored by Garland Animal Services. The 2023 year has been challenging for a number of reasons:

1. The coordination of 20 surgeries, on select Mondays, at the Garland Animal Shelter, exclusively.

2. Surgery slots available have recently (August, 2023) increased from 60 per month to 80 per month.

3. TNR drop-off and recuperation facilities are in a rented 12 x 44 (528 square feet) construction trailer. Not a lot of space for anything else!

In spite of the challenges thrown our way during the 2023 season, the TNR program has sterilized over 700 community cats, preventing the birth of an estimated 1,700+ kittens (that is just the first generation calculation). TNR has provided medical care for a few cats, sponsoring limb amputations, flea treatment, vaccinations, blood work and antibiotics. When cats cannot wait for a Monday sterilization date at the shelter, they are sent through TCAP where rabies, pain shots, vaccinations and flea treatment are often provided through the Garland Pawsibilities TNR funds.

The Garland TNR program is made successful by the dedicated care provided to the community cats by the colony managers (caregivers). As much as possible, the Garland TNR program tries to ensure that Garland community cats are well fed. In order to support that effort, over 5,000 pounds of cat food have been distributed, thanks to the Rescue Bank of Greater Goods Charities.

Although the Garland TNR surgeries are furnished by the City of Garland, there is still a need to fund the unexpected. Community cats are entitled to medical care that cannot be provided by the colony manager nor Garland Animal Services. When traps are damaged, lost or stolen, the Garland Pawsibilities TNR program purchases the traps. Bottom line, funds are still needed to help support and maintain the Garland TNR program.

Please, help us continue to curb the community cat population!
