Youth Revive is an education nonprofit closing the civic empowerment gap through character and civic education for youth in low-income communities. Established in 2013, Youth Revive provides programs and services that empower students to become character-driven, wanting to rebuild, reconnect, and revive their community.

Our Ignite Me program design includes a framework for civic character that develops students in civic knowledge, civic motivation, civic dispositions, and civic skills. Our Ignite Me curriculum includes five substructures to our framework for civic character: 1. Community 2. identity, capacities, and assets. 3. Fairness and equity. 4. Media and research, and 5. Community action project day.

One student described her experience with the Ignite Me program by saying, “I learned more about police brutality and its causes. I am really passionate about police brutality because of how big of an issue it is in my community of South Dallas. I love the Ignite Me program because we did a variety of different activities, it was never the same thing.”

During the 2021 school year, out of 227 students, 61% completed a community action project. After completing our Ignite Me program, 87% of students demonstrated increased levels of agreement that they know the four categories of a Community Asset Map, 79% of students demonstrated increased levels of agreement that they have a clear understanding of their “civic footprint,” and 74% of students demonstrated increased levels of agreement that they know how to find the key elected officials who represent their community.

To close the civic empowerment gap through character and civic education for youth in low-income communities.

Needs

It's our 10-year anniversary, and we are seeking to raise more than ever before! Last year was a record-setting NTGD for us, raising a little over 10k. This year our goal is to raise 25k to support our annual summer college tour and provide college readiness resources by partnering with College Mode Academy!

We know college is not for everyone, but it could be for someone. We believe character, civics, and college go hand in hand. Along with advocating character and civics education, we promote early awareness of college preparation, selection, admissions, financial aid, and other critical steps for college entry by providing exposure to college life! College tours prove eye-opening for low-income students. One student shared after attending our college tour, "I have a positive outlook on my academic opportunities, and my level of interest for college has increased as a result of my campus visit."

In the summer of 2023 we took 29 middle and high school students the University of Houston and Prairie View A&M University. 92.4% found the college tour informative and 92.3% found the college tour entertaining. One student shared, “I want to go to other colleges to visit.” You can help make it happen by giving today to cover the cost of a college tour in summer 2024 for students and families who may not be able to afford such a trip.

Funds not used for college readiness will be allocated to our character and civic education.
