Theatre Off The Square is the oldest running live theatre group in Weatherford, Texas. It is a subsidiary of the Parker County Fine Arts Association, a nonprofit 501 (c) 3 corporation and is managed by a Board of Directors who donate their time, effort, and resources to benefit the theatre and the community. All of our productions require a lot of team volunteer effort – from the actors on stage and the crew behind the scenes to the folks who run “Front of House,” such as the Box Office and Concessions. It is a 100% volunteer organization. The theatre operates on donations and tickets sales alone.

TOTS, as its loyal patrons call it, has produced some of the most popular and entertaining plays and musicals in America, including plays by premier playwrights like Neil Simon and Agatha Christie as well as popular contemporary playwrights like Jaston Williams, Joe Sears, and Ed Howard of Tuna fame and the team Jones Hope Wooten. Several playwrights have visited the theatre, including Jones Hope Wooten who attended the theatre’s production of their play “The Red Velvet Cake War” which was the Southwest Premiere of the show and the WORLD PREMIERE of their play “Doublewide, Texas Christmas.”

The theatre extends their knowledge of theatre arts to the community by holding Theatre Off The Square’s Summer Kids Theatre Camp for youth entering grades 1 – 9 for nine years running with the exception of the COVID shutdown of performance venues between March of 2020 and February 2021.

December 2022, TOTS will be closing its 23rd Season of Shows and looking forward to the 24th season of educating and entertaining our community in 2023.

Mission

The mission of the Parker County Fine Arts Association dba. Theatre Off The Square is to entertain our patrons with quality productions, educate our public about live theatre, and nurture theatrical talent through inclusivity, collaboration, and a strong partnership with our community.

Needs

At Theatre Off The Square, we strive to educate the public about live theatre, and this most definitely includes the youth of our community.

We have offered summer theatre camp for Grades 3 – 9 now for 10 years featuring sessions such as fight choreography, musical theatre, improv, and more. This past year, we extended into our StageStruck Theatre Academy to provide fall and spring classes and workshops for learners of all ages.

With this program expansion, we have added the following needs: 1) Additional facilities have to be rented. 2) Pay to provide one instructor as well as a volunteer instructor’s aid per class for the safety of the participants as well as that of the instructors. These along with the increase in supply costs have add to the our annual cost of fulfilling our mission to provide quality theatre education in our community.

The fine arts are not always deemed as important as the academics in schools, and in some areas of the country, the arts have been totally cut. Some children have an innate ability to perform but need to be guided and taught to ensure a successful venture into the performing arts. Others are just wanting to do something fun and perhaps out of the ordinary. Theatre is intriguing, thought provoking, challenging and a great opportunity for life-long learning.

As an additional need, we wish to make physical improvements to our venue for the comfort and enjoyment of our patrons and volunteers. This past year, we had to replace our roof, which was an expense that kept us from being able to make other necessary upgrades. We're still in need of updating carpeting and theatre seating, continuing to upgrade stage lighting to LED for energy efficiency and reduction of heat from the incandescent lighting, and building out a permanent stage extension to increase the size of our performance area.
