We serve all of Northeast Texas but especially Hunt County and the Lake Tawakoni area. We are the only hope for animals in Southern Hunt County and are often told we are the only rescue to return a phone call or try to help the animals in need in this rural area. Many of our animals are stray, rescued from living on the streets or have been abandoned. How anyone can move and leave a dog behind we don't understand but this happens way too often in this area. We are saving over 250 animals per year and feed on average 85 animals every day. We have become a sanctuary for older dogs that deserve a home no matter their age or adopt-ability and unsocial animals that we are still trying to rehabilitate. We love them all and will care for them no matter what. Recently we have had some Senior dogs adopted and the stories are amazing! We work with individuals or families to prevent ANY animal from going to a high kill shelter whenever possible. We have also been there for domestic abuse survivors that need to go to a shelter but will not leave their animal behind. We are there to care for their animal at no charge until they can regain suitable housing for themselves and their animal. Your gifts support all of our programs. Saving animals is our passion and helping people and any animal in need is our daily goal.

Our Needs

While we faced many uncertainties during the COVID-19 pandemic, Texas Best Choices Animal Rescue continued to make a difference in the lives of animals and their people in need. Our facility remained open because all of the dogs in our care needed our love, water, shelter, medical treatments and FOOD every day - no matter what !! We maintained robust adoptions through social distancing and continued to save lives that had no other hope. We even saw a Silver lining amidst the pandemic with many elderly dogs finding their forever homes. We continue to search for Fosters to give our animals a break from outdoor living. We provide all you need, you provide the home and love for a few days or longer! Our greatest need is a HOME for all of our animals!

This year we have faced different challenges.   We belong to a food bank for rescues but they have not received enough donations to share with many rescues.   We have become part of the food insecure.   Just like families, rescues are struggling to geed our dogs.    Instead of .15 to .20/lb, we have been paying retail at over $1.00 per lb to buy food at retail.    Funds raised now are going first to maintain an adequate food supply.   Veterinary expenses have also skyrocketed.   Spay/neuter has almost doubled from just 3 years ago.  Emergency medical issues have always been challenging but we must be ready to save a life with emergency care and of course spay/neuter is an absolute must!    Every dollar given goes directly to the animals. We have no Administration salaries and our Board of Directors is volunteer based. Funds raised this year will ensure we can continue to say YES to emergency situations and save as many dogs and pups as possible.

Mission

Texas Best Choices Animal Rescue was founded in 2003 and became non profit in 2006 as a primarily volunteer, 501(c)(3) non-profit, NO KILL rescue organization with a physical shelter in Hunt County, Texas. It is our mission to rescue & rehabilitate stray, unwanted, homeless and hungry dogs & pups, or owner surrender animals, helping each to find a carefully matched permanent and loving home through adoption. We accept all breeds to reduce the large number of animals going to high kill shelters and to save their lives. It is our mission to educate the community on humane animal care, the necessity of spay & neuter and to promote an overall value of all animals. We have rescued 300 +animals per year for many years. We are currently caring for 85+ dogs and pups every day.

Needs

Every dollar goes to the animals in need, therefore each dollar donated helps us save another life. Our focus this year is survival in this economy to continue to save more dogs and pups in our area. Survival is conquering our food insecurity, funding veterinary care including spay/neuter and preparing our animals socially and medically to be adoptable and ready to find their forever home. A gift to TBC is a gift of hope to homeless and helpless animals.
