We currently serve approximately 1500 different families each year through our pantry services and received approximately 500 request for financial assistance. Our priority is to provide families with solutions to break the cycle of poverty but also assist individuals and families going through a difficult period.
As it relates to COVID-19, our response has been to provide full groceries every 2 weeks to individuals and families impacted. Additionally we are providing financial assistance to single parent households of children designated by the various independent school districts as "homeless". The families live in non-traditional housing environments and have no protection for non-eviction under the current county, state and federal guidelines.
We also serve the homeless population daily in Irving with basic needs including food, hygiene and showers. We assist them with obtaining housing and jobs.
Our Needs
There is an urgent need in our community for a centralized case program that can match client needs with services to bring about real solutions. Crisis Ministries as a 100% volunteer organization is a unique position to be a central location for these services. Specific needs is to meet financial needs to prevent homelessness for seniors and families with children.
We have started a collaboration with two other agencies to provide wrap around services to individuals and families.
The greatest need is assisting families in extended stay hotels by offering transitional housing. A stable home environment is key to student welfare and to break the cycle of poverty in a family.
