In 1983, CHAI's founders envisioned a caring and one-of-a-kind environment servicing those in our community with intellectual disabilities. At the time, institutional care was the norm and the group home environment was cutting-edge. Their dedication to purchase and maintain group homes set the stage for CHAI to become the successful community provider it is today. 40 years later, CHAI continues to fulfill its mission of supporting those in need by providing clients with a place to live, life skills education, opportunities for social inclusion, multiple healthcare options, and a team of tireless advocates who make certain every resident is treated with respect and compassion.
The residents who live in our nine group homes receive supervision and the highest quality of 24/7 care from dedicated and caring staff. Our staff provides round-the-clock assistance with all of their day-to-day needs like maintaining their household, preparing meals, overseeing their healthcare and medications, managing their budget and finances, and transporting them to all of their appointments and activities. In addition to group homes, CHAI operates an Individualized Skills & Socialization program which meets five days each week and gives its participants the chance to go on exciting field trips and have meaningful experiences in a community setting. CHAI often partners with community organizations and individual volunteers to create strong mutually beneficial friendships and to create lifelong memories.
