The Center for American and International Law (CAIL)

A nonprofit organization

For over 75 years, The Center for American and International Law (CAIL) has dedicated itself to improving the quality of justice through the professional development of lawyers and law enforcement officers. CAIL was founded as the Southwestern Legal Foundation by prominent Dallas attorney Robert Storey upon returning from his service as lead prosecutor of the Nazis at the Nuremberg Trials following World War II. Since its inception, CAIL has been actively advancing and improving the quality of justice in the North Texas community and abroad.  Tens of thousands of lawyers and law enforcement officers have been educated in CAIL programs.

Programs focus on specific interest areas: law enforcement leadership, ethics and diversity training, criminal defense, capital trial, actual innocence, energy law, international law, transnational arbitration, and law and technology.

Many programs are hosted at our office in Plano, which serves the North Texas legal and criminal justice community. CAIL has established a reputation for delivering education programs of the highest quality in our community.

Mission

The Center for American and International Law (CAIL) is dedicated to improving the quality of justice through the education of lawyers and law enforcement officials in the United States and throughout the world. This is accomplished through our various institutes and programs:

Institute for Law Enforcement Administration - education programs include leadership, ethics, diversity and communications training. Last fiscal year, we served 942 officers and law enforcement professionals.

Criminal Justice Programs - education programs for all professionals in the courtroom; prosecutors, defense attorneys and judges.

Actual Innocence Program - educating courtroom professionals on the key causes of wrongful convictions and how to avoid.

Needs

Current issues threatening justice and the Rule of Law make CAIL's work more relevant to our society at home and abroad. Funding from North Texas Giving Day will help CAIL provide high-quality ethics-driven education to North Texas-based law enforcement officers, prosecutors, and defense counsels. Your donation can help educate and train the full spectrum of North Texas professionals who protect our rights and the rights of others.

Your donation could provide the following:

$50 – support top-notch ethics education and leadership training for officers to make North Texas an even better place to live.

$250 – introduce international lawyers from developing nations to the North Texas community, Courts, and the American justice system through our Academy program.

$500 – host prosecutors, defense counsels, law enforcement officers, and judges onsite educating them on how to avoid wrongful convictions.

$1000 – provide scholarships for North Texas police officers and supervisors to attend vital courses on ethics, diversity, and community building, strengthening law enforcement and community ties.
