Your Support Will Help Reduce the Burden of Cancer in Your North Texas Community

At the American Cancer Society, our passion for eliminating cancer as we know it is at the heart of everything we do. We are a community-led organization that is dedicated to saving lives, promoting healthy living, and supporting those affected by cancer. Our team of volunteers, staff, and donors work tirelessly to achieve our mission, and we are proud to have made significant progress in the DFW area. 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. If you’ve been recently diagnosed, or know someone who has, we’re here with answers, guidance, and support.

This North Texas Giving Day, we hope to grow our impact in the community by leveraging donor's gifts into action through critical patient programs. We have two featured campaigns we hope you will support.

Mission

The mission of the American Cancer Society is to improve the lives of people with cancer and their families through advocacy, research, and patient support, to ensure everyone has an opportunity to prevent, detect, treat, and survive cancer.

Needs

- Road to Recovery: This program provides free transportation for cancer patients to and from treatment. Donations can help fund the cost of gas and vehicle maintenance for volunteer drivers.

- Hope Lodge: This program provides free lodging for cancer patients and their caregivers who need to travel to receive treatment. Donations can help cover the cost of maintaining and operating Hope Lodge locations across the country.

- Cancer Information Helpline: This program offers free information and support to anyone affected by cancer through a 24/7 helpline. Donations can help fund the salaries of trained specialists who staff the helpline.

- Cancer Research Funding: The American Cancer Society provides funding to researchers and institutions to help accelerate the progress of cancer research. Donations can help fund research studies and clinical trials aimed at developing new treatments and prevention strategies.

- Reach To Recovery: This program connects newly diagnosed breast cancer patients with trained volunteers who have also experienced breast cancer. Donations can help fund the training and support of these volunteers, as well as the resources provided to patients.

- Cancer Survivors Network: This online support community connects cancer survivors and caregivers with others who have experienced similar situations. Donations can help fund the maintenance and expansion of this platform.

Equity Statement

Diversity, equity, and inclusion are critical to achieving our mission, and reducing cancer disparities is an overarching goal of the American Cancer Society and the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network. We need to make sure everyone has the ability to benefit from advancements in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. All people deserve a fair and just opportunity to live longer, healthier lives; this is demonstrated through our Core Value of diversity and intentionally striving for equity through inclusion and respect.

We believe that we will not reach our mission if we are not inclusive of every community touched by cancer, actively working towards ending cancer disparities. We acknowledge that there is still much work to be done, in partnership with communities that have been disproportionately burdened by cancer and who experience greater obstacles to cancer prevention, early detection, treatment, and survival. This includes Black people and African Americans; Hispanic/Latino people; Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and other Pacific Islanders; Indigenous people and Alaska Natives; LGBTQ+ people; and people with disabilities. This work must take an intersectional approach; that is, understanding that people have overlapping identities, which are varied, complex, and shaped by the systems they interact with. Health is not always “one size fits all,” and we must be intentional, thoughtful, and inclusive if we are to have long-lasting impact.
