Tyler Street Tower

A nonprofit organization

Tyler Street Tower began its service to low and very low income seniors in 1970. For over 48 years we have continued to fulfill our mission by providing housing and social services to an extremely vulnerable and higly exploitable population of senior citizens that are classified as extremely low-income according to City of Dallas guidelines. In addition, the vast majority of our seniors receive only $775 per month from Social Security. Due to this limited monthly income, many of our seniors find themselves homeless, living in slum housing or in unsafe temporary living situations where they are continually exploited by friends and family and struggle to find a way to a better life. Tyler Street Tower staff works closely with several outreach agencies and homeless shelters to help elderly individuals that have been exploited, are being evicted or just need a safe place to live.

Our facility is a high-rise and consists of 180 efficiency and one bedroom apartments. The facility does not receive any city or federal rental assistance and relies solely on tenant rents to cover operating and programming costs. In order to provide housing to older adults classified as extremely low-income, Tyler Street Tower charges affordable rental rates which allows a person who receives only the minimum amount of benefits from Social Security to afford an apartment. In addition to housing, we provide multiple activities and services to ensure that residents are able to successfully live a peaceful retirement and maintain their independence within their budgetary constraints.
