The most powerful gift we can give a child isn’t something that comes in a box. It’s access—to people who inspire, to experiences that spark imagination, and to opportunities that open doors to futures they never imagined.

That’s why we support Friends of Solar Prep for Boys and Girls.

This year, I saw firsthand the impact of Solar Prep’s Future Leadership Friday Speaker Series. What began as simple conversations with leaders became something so much bigger.

Students didn't just hear from professionals about what they do.

They were introduced to possibilities.

Doctors offered preceptorships. Bankers taught financial literacy. Photographers offered to lead workshops. Attorneys gave career guidance. Medical professionals welcomed students into hospital training facilities. Businesses like H-E-B and SMU Guildhall provided STEM field trips and scholarships. Industry leaders brought robotics and technology, and one speaker even donated a Glowforge Pro so students could keep creating long after the day was over.

These aren’t just donations.

They’re doors.

Sometimes, a bright future begins with meeting just one person who says, “I see your potential.”

At Solar Prep, students are surrounded by chances to be curious, creative, and ambitious. They meet doctors, engineers, artists, entrepreneurs, and leaders—and discover that these careers aren’t just stories. They’re possibilities for them.

They are possibilities for them.

That’s why this year’s North Texas Giving Day theme, Bright Futures Start Here, means so much to me.

Because I’ve seen where “here” can lead.

“Here” can lead to a hospital, a STEM lab, a courtroom, a studio, a university, or a technology career.

Here can lead to a STEM lab.

Here can lead to a courtroom, a design studio, a production company, a bank, a university, or a career in technology.

It can lead to a scholarship or a mentor.

Here can lead to a mentor.

And sometimes, “here” is where a child first realizes, “I can do that.”
