The Golden Key

We are dedicated to helping high school students shape their plans for life after high school graduation and accomplish their goals, whether college, trade school, the military, or the workforce. We will help them create educational and career goals by providing tutoring, offering mentorships, making presentations, organizing workshops and seminars, and utilizing a dynamic and sophisticated website. We will provide these tutoring and training services at minimal costs to those who need them, incorporating high school and college volunteers when possible.

For years, I worked for a college prep company, helping students prepare for the SAT and ACT. We also provided some college counseling services at a high cost. In March 2020, my employer decided to downsize due to the Covid-19 pandemic and I lost my job. It was then that I realized that what I missed most about my job were the relationships that I had built with students and families. I had become invested in their lives and worried about the outcome of their efforts. Did the young man who had become legally blind within 3 months gotten into the architect program at the college of his choice? Did the young lady who wanted to become a speech pathologist and attend a local university go against her parent’s wishes of attending an out-of-state school and majoring in engineering? Did the student who turned down multiple Ivy League schools to attend a state university’s honors program, which was more affordable, regret his decision? Did these students make the best decisions for themselves, or did they regret choosing college over other options?

While the pandemic continued, I had time to contemplate what I wanted to do next with my life. That is when the idea for The Golden Key was born. I could continue helping students reach their goals by providing resources and information to help them choose the best paths for their lives. And I could make this program affordable to those who cannot pay the exorbitant fees charged by other businesses.
