Collective Activism started in 2019 with the goal of personal advocacy for victims of social injustice but has developed a much broader scope to include housing, education, employment, public safety, estate issues, etc. We are here to help the community source, access, and obtain the necessary resources to ensure a standard of living. Collective Activism was given the property formerly known as Sunny Acres Community Center right here in Dixon Circle!! We are in the process of turning that blight in the community to a bright in the community!! But, we need your help. We need finance.
Our goal is to get this property rehabilitated back into a community center that will focus on education, food sustainability, and other needs to enhance an impoverished and neglected community. We are already in alignment to partner with local education institutions as within his recent retirement announcement the former superintendent of Dallas Independent School District blatantly stated that the learning gap is larger for Black children. It is on us to address this.
We are in dire need of the first $10,000 to at least get the building cleaned out to allow contractors to walk through and start the quoting process for the rehab. Again – your donation will contribute to:
· Education
· Job Training
· Food Sustainability
· Community Advocacy
There are 4 liens on the property dating back as far as 1985 with the most recent being 2004 totaling so far about $15k. We need to go through the lien removal process. Before we can have contractors start walking through we need to clean it out first. We need at least $5000 needed to have a professional come in and clean it. And then there is the plumbing... The overall cost of the project will be $100,000 to complete all of the renovations. This is a needed center in one of the most storied, impoverished neighborhoods in the city of Dallas.
There will be community meetings to determine the diverse uses of the center. Education is non-negotiable, we will partner with DCCCD for GED and ESL courses, and will have computers and ipads for adult and youth classes. One of the board members has suggested a pantry and washing machines and dryers for youth that don't have access to clean clothes, etc. We have already met with Dallas Independent School District leadership and they are excited about the potential of a partnership with the center. The community will decide on the name of the center as well.
If you have any questions do not hesitate to reach out (info@collectiveactivism.com). Please, help this great effort if you can. Thank you in advance for your consideration. All donations are TAX DEDUCTIBLE.
