Near Southside Arts

A nonprofit organization

Proudly, the Near Southside is among the most vibrant and diverse communities in Fort Worth. We work to see our local brand of history and culture reflected in the community we create. We are first and foremost a neighborhood.

The Near Southside team has an important role in our community - to strengthen and evolve the ways we live, work, and create, in order to live better together. Along with public and private partners, our work is focused in two key areas: Creating Places and Cultivating Community.

This North Texas Giving Day, we turn our focus to one specific effort that serves both of those critical areas! Learn more about fundraising to support the programming and maintenance of The Pool a Near Southside Art Space!

Mission

Near Southside Arts is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to the ongoing redevelopment of Fort Worth's Near Southside as a vibrant, urban, mixed-use neighborhood. This is accomplished through the production of public events where visitors experience strong community ties between businesses and residents. Our annual ArtsGoggle, Friday on the Green, Open Streets and PARK(ing) Day free public festivals draw over 100,000 attendees each year. NSA also seeks to implement initiatives that invest in public spaces; promote the arts and historic preservation; expand housing choices; and initiate community partnerships. The Near Southside is a roughly 1,400-acre district located just south of downtown Fort Worth, and thanks to the work of both organizations, it is growing following the principles of smart urban development, sustainability, a mix of uses, walkable and bike-able streets, and truly livable pre-suburban neighborhood design.

Needs

Creative communities need creative spaces! That is why Near Southside Arts is excited to announce THE POOL NEAR SOUTHSIDE ARTS SPACE. Located at 1801 8th Ave. — on the ground floor of Everly Plaza — The Pool is a community-centered art gallery featuring 2,400 sq. ft. of exhibition space that opened in March 2022. It is the culmination of decades of art advocacy, dreaming, and planning by a passionate community of artists and arts patrons. Now, we need your financial support for the daily operations and planned program for this vital community space.

Managed by Near Southside Arts, the gallery will provide formal exhibition space for local artists as well as enjoyable and educational art experiences for the community. The Pool is drawn from the Near Southside’s culture of “rebellious creativity” and will serve as a welcoming, adaptable space dedicated to local artists. As a space swimming with talent, The Pool is a space where established artists can make a splash as they debut exploratory works that expand their practice and where emerging artists can dip a toe in the water as they dive into Fort Worth’s art scene. The Pool also partners with local non-profit arts organizations and artist collectives to offer affordable and accessible community art space for group shows, professional workshops, and community engagement. In addition, artists across all media are encouraged to envision the space for their personal exhibitions and invited to work closely with the Near Southside Arts staff to plan events and programming at The Pool.

Sound exciting? We think so too!

Our goal at The Pool is to offer the space our community needs to learn, practice, grow and share – and your donation today will support:

*Daily operating costs to keep the lights and AC running.

*Administrative costs to keep our team working with artists, curators and other community organizations.

*Marketing to expand our reach to artists for partnership and engage community members to as we promote events.

*Gallery equipment needed for smooth operations; from heat-blocking window shades to ladders, hanging supplies, projector and screen, and pedestals for 3D artworks.

Pursuing a professional art practice is full of sacrifice, risk, and hard work. If you feel strongly, like we do, that Fort Worth artists deserve to work in professional spaces where they are given the time, resources, financial support, and community partnership to support their career we ask for your donation today. Thanks so much for your support.

Equity Statement

Within our organization, we continue to recruit Near Southside leaders to our committees and board that are more representative of our community- through any of the many ways that diversity might be seen: race, gender, age, religion, identity, and experience. Like so many organizations like ours, we are not yet where we want to be but have full support and commitment among current leadership to prioritize diversity, equity and inclusion efforts. In addition, in serving our communities, we strive to strengthen relationships with other local organizations focused on making our district and all of Fort Worth a more inclusive place.
