La Buena Vida Youth Leadership Foundation

La Buena Vida Youth Leadership Foundation would like your support for our youth leadership programs we provide to local disadvantaged and at-risk youth in North Texas. Our primary focus is in Irving, whose student population often has a lower level of parental involvement and is also 72% minority with 84% of their students on free or reduced lunch. OUr programs include:
• LBV Youth Leadership Summit---an annual, two-day Leadership Summit in October for 350 underprivileged 9th and 10th grade students in the Irving ISD, focusing on leadership, communication, conflict resolution, ethics and financial literacy.
• Irving Achievers---a monthly mentoring program, impacting 80 to 100 students each school year, grade levels 9-12, who have been sent to the Students Reassignment Center (Irving ISD alternative school) due to disciplinary issues at their home campus. We focus on the root of what is causing their behavior and showing them possible future career options that focus on trade school and on the job training.
• Future Leaders of Irving---a year-long, monthly leadership program with community partners for 45 high school seniors who are referred by their school counselors and seen as having personal potential but little support from home. Each class includes the students touring, via motor coach, organizations in the fields of business, technology, transportation, higher education, healthcare, government and meeting with the leaders of those organizations.
• We are looking to expand into new leadership programs that focus support on high school girls and middle school students.

Our Needs

Each of our programs need monetary gifts to help with transportation for the students to our events, learning materials that we hand out to the students during the course of each program, facility rentals when necessary, meals and snacks for the students attending our events and staff support. We are also seeking additional funds of approximately $10,000 each to be able to add the girls leadership program and the middle school leadership summit to our annual projects.
