WHY GIRLS INC. DALLAS? At Girls Inc. of Metropolitan Dallas, we believe that every girl, no matter what her circumstances, deserves the opportunity to thrive. In a girls-only, pro-girl environment, our nationally recognized, research-based curricula and outcomes-based programming provide the activities, relationships, and experiences that girls need to succeed in school and careers.

WHAT WE DO: We serve girls of low-income and under-resourced areas of Dallas, through our afterschool, summer camps, and partner-based programs. We provide girls with life-changing experiences and solutions to navigate gender, economic, and social barriers to grow into healthy, educated, and independent women.

OUR PROGRAMS: The three core components of our programs are Healthy Living, Academic Enrichment and Support, and Life Skills Instruction.

  1. STRONG/Healthy Living: Girls participate in program activities and experiences that provide them with the knowledge, skills, and encouragement to develop and sustain a healthy lifestyle and increase their understanding about the dangers of making unhealthy choices, including illegal substance use and risky sexual activity.
  2. SMART/Academic Enrichment and Support: Girls engage in activities and experiences that expand upon and support their school-based learning, leading to improved outlook and performance in school and educational aspirations beyond high school.
  3. BOLD/Life Skills Instruction: Girls learn skills and strategies to lead safer and more independent lives at home, in relationships, within their communities, and online. Girls' participation leads to increased persistence and resilience and improved self and emotional control.

WHO WE SERVE: More than 75% of the 3,500 girls we served last year live in low-income households. The girls' diversity is reflective of the community: 51% Hispanic/Latino, 34% African American/Black, 4% White, 2% Asian, 8% multiracial, and 1% other.

Our Needs

With many of our girls' households experiencing unemployment, food insecurity and heightened anxiety, their living environments are at great risk for toxic stress. In many cases, toxic stress can lead to an increase in depression and domestic abuse. Dallas County girls are in critical need of Girls Inc. programming to navigate and cope with their stressful environments.

The achievement and opportunity gaps are also widening for girls from low-income, under-served communities in Dallas County, without the support of their schools. Your gifts will help expand our reach in Dallas County to 4,350 girls this fiscal year.

Mission

The mission of Girls Inc. of Metropolitan Dallas is to inspire all girls to be strong, smart, and bold. Girls Inc. Dallas has chosen to focus its efforts on girls ages 6-18 who can most benefit from our comprehensive programming - girls growing up in low-income and under-resourced communities. We focus on positively impacting three community issues: improving economic mobility, teen pregnancy prevention, and girls' increased involvement in STEM education and careers. Our vision is a world in which every girl values her whole self, discovers her inherent strengths, achieves her goals, and enjoys lasting success.

Equity Statement

Girls Inc. of Metro Dallas is committed to providing the Girls Inc. experience to all youth who identify as girls regardless of their assigned sex at birth, and those who are exploring their gender identity or expression during their time at Girls.
