Who is First Refuge?

A Certain Hope for Uncertain Times.

First Refuge is a Jesus-inspired solution for Denton County that helps fight hunger and physical and emotional affliction. We position ourselves as a safe place and genuine hope for our community.

Our goal is to minister to the entire person by caring for their spiritual, emotional, and physical needs, ultimately offering hope and healing through the love of Jesus Christ.
We would not exist without our volunteers; our services are provided through the generosity of volunteer health professionals and community members.

Our services include:

Medical: Available by appointment during the week in Denton and Sanger and Mobile Medical on Saturday mornings.

Medical Clinic
Chiropractic Clinic
RX Relief Program
Well Woman Exam
Immunizations
Community Health Screenings

Dental: Available by appointment in Denton.

Cleanings
Exams
X-rays
Extractions

We are the only Dental Clinic in Denton County offering quality dental care to those in the community who cannot afford dental services.

Counseling: (available by appointment in Denton and Sanger)

We provide Christian counseling services to individuals, couples, families, and groups.
Counseling will be based on a relationship characterized by trust and respect. The counselor and client will work together to identify counseling goals and move toward meeting those goals. Our desire is to offer hope and healing.

Food Pantry: We assist people in our community (Denton County, north of Lake Lewisville) who are hungry and need food during a financial crisis.

Our Food Pantry is a "Choice Pantry." This method allows the client to choose foods based on their dietary needs and the convenience of selecting items that will supplement what they already have at home. Clients may visit the Food Pantry once every 30 days during operation hours.
Denton: Mondays: 9 am-12 pm | Wednesdays: 1-4 pm | Thursdays: 6-8 pm
Sanger: Mondays 1 pm-4 pm | Thursdays 9 am-12 pm

Our Needs:

Volunteers and funds.

We continuously require funds to operate during this time of crisis. The needs of the community are significant and growing every day! This year, we have experienced an important increase in the number of our clients, stretching our capacity to essential limits.

Mission

We believe everybody who enters our doors should be seen, known, and loved. We then identify the need and if we have the resources to be of service. Finally, we connect them to the applicable services: food pantry, counseling, medical, and dental.

Seen = We accept you for you - this applies to you as the person, not your affiliation.

Known = We listen to you. Identify if we can help given the resources we have. The First Refuge will journey with you, and together, we will fight against whatever is weighing you down.

Loved = One of our greatest joys is seeing our neighbors walking free from the circumstances that brought them to us in the first place. This is how we know we are truly loved - encouraging each other to take steps towards a life of freedom.

OUR VISION:

To see our community walking in freedom, free from hunger, physical suffering, emotional distress, and spiritual uncertainty.
