$75,000 Goal

Founded in 1996, DFW Pug Rescue Club, Inc., (DFWPRC) is one of the largest pug rescue organizations in the United States and has rescued and placed thousands of huggable, squeezable, absolutely adorable pugs. DFWPRC rescues all purebred pugs regardless of age or medical condition. Since we rescued all those pugs, our veterinary care is our biggest on-going expense and we average between $25,000-$30,000 a month in veterinary expenses. This amount is after our veterinary care clinics provide deep discounts. More than 90% of all funds donated to DFW Pug Rescue are used to pay for veterinary care.

No Pug Left Behind.

Our Needs

DFW Pug Rescue expects to serve 175 pugs, maintain 50 to 60 foster and respite homes with an average of 35-40 pugs in rescue at all times; and place 150 dogs in approved adoptive homes over the next year. Each pug entering our care is transported to a veterinary care center in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. Their conditions at intake vary and may include a positive heartworm test, mammary tumors, hernias, malnutrition, demodex mange, knee and hip dysplasia, ear infections, and blindness. The expenses associated with the treatment, medication, and follow-up care of rescued pugs averages over  $200,000 annually. This year alone we have taken in four pugs that have required extensive care in the emergency and surgery clinics for the following diagnoses: Parvo, Abdominal obstruction/surgery, Acute vomiting, abdominal pain, metabolic acidosis, Leukocytosis, & Seizures, syncope. These emergency/surgery clinic treatments plus follow up at our regular vets have cost the Rescue over $10,000.00. These emergencies have depleted our emergency funds and will impact our ability to pay for regular medical care for our foster pugs. The pug is a tenacious and resilient breed. Even with the serious medical conditions that our pugs must overcome, 92% are placed in loving, safe forever homes each year. Additionally, we had hoped to hold fundraisers anticipating raising at least $3,000.00 for general purposes and $2,000.00 for heartworm prevention which all pugs must have on a monthly basis.

Mission

Mission Statement: DFW Pug Rescue Club, Inc. was formed for the purpose of providing rescue, care, and adoption of unwanted, mistreated, or homeless pugs.

DFW Pug Rescue Club was founded in early 1996 and incorporated in July 1997 as a charitable, non- profit corporation. We are one of the largest pug rescue organizations in the United States having rescued and placed over 7,500 hugable, squeezable, absolutely adorable pugs!

Veterinary care is our biggest expense averaging $200,000 a year. This amount is after our veterinary care clinics provide deep discounts. All pugs rescued are taken immediately to the vet where they are examined, tested (and treated) for heartworm, vaccinated, sterilized, microchipped, and rabies shots administered before being placed in a foster or permanent home.

DFWPRC is an all-volunteer, foster-based organization - there are no paid positions.

We do not have a staging area to hold our rescue pugs. We depend on the generosity of our volunteers to provide foster homes until permanent homes can be located.

You can help to promote our mission and be a part of this exciting volunteer opportunity. Please visit our website and social media sites for information on DFW Pug Rescue.

Needs

We always need funds for our veterinary expenses. We also need donations of leashes, harnesses, and collars. We need donations of heart worm preventatives as all of our pugs take this medication. We always need foster and adoptive homes. If you have a home suitable for a pug, please apply!
