Carrell Clinic Foundation

A nonprofit organization

The Carrell Clinic Foundation (CCF) is a 501(c)(3) public charity with the mission to support four important needs in the field of orthopedics and musculoskeletal medicine: charity care, research, education and patient advocacy.

CCF was founded in 2017 by the surgeon partners of the Carrell Clinic in Dallas, Texas. These partners recognized the unmet need for charitable assistance when they discovered that hundreds of children annually are aged out of the Scottish Rite for Children (SRC) hospital system. Roughly half of these patients have coverage gaps, being underinsured or having no insurance coverage at all. They are often left with needs not met by government assistance or insurance once they turn 18 years of age. CCF’s mission is to meet this need gap.

As part of its mission, CCF assists these young people with prosthetics for amputations, orthotics for deformities or paralysis and surgeries for musculoskeletal issues. In assisting with these needs, CCF helps to empower these young adults to make a difference through education and entering the workforce. This ultimately improves quality of life and helps individuals live with dignity and purpose.

CCF is positioned to help those in financial need by offering advocacy to ensure discounted or free professional services and financial assistance for the other costs related to care. This assistance is not limited to one facility or provider group. With the support of a major philanthropy group, CCF is continuing to grow and develop partnerships nationwide.

Needs Supported:

Research: CCF support of musculoskeletal research focuses on Dallas area researchers, including the orthopedic surgery departments at Baylor Scott & White, UT Southwestern and the Carrell Clinic. This group includes award winning researchers who strive to make an impact, and who were part of a team that was recently awarded the 2019 Kappa Delta Award - The highest research award given by the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.

Education: CCF support of musculoskeletal education focuses on Dallas area orthopedic residency programs at Baylor Scott & White, UT Southwestern, the Shoulder and Elbow Fellowship and resident educations programs at the Carrell Clinic. We support education of student athletic trainers, medical assistants and nurses in orthopedics.

Charity Care/Patient Advocacy: CCF support of musculoskeletal charity care focuses on Dallas and North Texas area qualified patients approved according to the CCF financial assistance policy which is publicly available online. We have broad discretion to include services and patients not covered by government or third-party payors, and funding for care is not limited to any location or facility. Our priority group of patients is the young adults who are former patients of Scottish Rite for Children, but we are not restricted to this group and are able to assist any qualified applicant with a musculoskeletal problem.

CCF has grown tremendously over the past year and has been active in funding limb prostheses, supplies and pre/post op expenses for young adults who are struggling with a gap in insurance coverage or no coverage at all while trying to make their way in the world.

Mission

The Carrell Clinic Foundation (CCF) is a 501(c)(3) Texas public charity with the mission to support four important needs in the field of orthopedics and musculoskeletal medicine: charity care, research, education and patient advocacy.

Needs

We are supported by the national philanthropy foundation Stand Together and the Charles Koch Institute.

We can have already expanded services across Texas this year and our plan is to take this model national. We have developed a network of providers and are positioned to make an impact. We need additional financial support to scale and grow.

Equity Statement

We do not consider race in making grant determinations or in funding care.
