Assistance League of Greater Collin County members develop, fund and participate in programs that provide new school clothing for thousands of children in need, provide activities for senior citizens, donate and distribute reading material to patients and families at local hospitals, and support grieving parents. Short-term needs of the community are also addressed. We support these philanthropic programs:

OPERATION SCHOOL BELL® - This is a nationwide philanthropy program of Assistance League that provides new clothes, shoes, and hygiene kits to children in need in Collin County. This program helps to build confidence, elevate self-esteem, encourage school attendance and improve academic performance. We provide more than just a new wardrobe - we are empowering young students to reach their full potential.

We provide Dr. Seuss books for first grade children at Title 1 elementary schools. Volunteers read a book to each first grade class, while dressed as The Cat in the Dr. Seuss' book. Each library receives a set of Dr. Seuss books.

WEE MEMORIES - Members prepare bereavement memory boxes for Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Plano and Allen. These boxes are presented to parents whose babies have died at or shortly after birth. This program provides a bright light during a very dark time for families who have lost their little ones.

OUTREACH - Members engage in activities that are specifically short term, or one-time responses, to meet community needs. We have delivered 1,200 pair of socks to Collin County Coalition for the Homeless. We have donated our inventory of men and women's underwear, adult jeans, sweatshirts and jackets to the homeless.

CARING IN ACTION - Members provide activities based upon community needs. Those activities included:

* Decorating 300 baseball caps for children undergoing treatment at Children's Medical Center of Plano.

* Donated 45 flannel blankets for homeless teens. Provided hygiene products such as hand sanitizer and cleaning supplies for middle school that has a high percentage of teens who are homeless or couch surf.

* Provided Christmas stockings filled with items such as soap, crossword puzzles, sanitizers and more for a senior living center in Frisco.

* Provided necessary supplies, fun activities, bedding, baby supplies and more to two abuse shelters for women and their children

* Provided 804 pairs of underwear to 34 Title 1 schools for those who may experience an accident while in the classroom

Our Needs

Our primary need is funding to support our various programs. In light of the current economy, we anticipate increased need for new clothing for growing grade school children.

We put smiles on children's faces and warm feelings in people's hearts.
