The Golden Gloves Youth Development Association has been operating a gym for amateur boxers in this area since the early 1950's. In the summer of 1973, a dream of many years came true with the construction of the present Golden Gloves Youth Center at 1040 N. Henderson. The facility was made possible by proceeds from past Golden Gloves tournaments, contributions from Amon G. Carter Foundation, the Star Telegram and many other individuals and businesses. Prior to the erection of this building, the gym was located in a portion of the Tarrant County fire hall at 501 North Calhoun across the Lagrave Field. The Youth Center is owned and operated by the Golden Gloves Youth Development Association, and is one of only few Golden Gloves Gyms in the nation. The Golden Gloves program provides an opportunity for athletes to participate in a major sports event and allows many to get involved. The Golden Gloves is successful due the energy and talent of the amateur boxers, and the volunteers who give their time.
Also, our gym is available free of charge to local clubs and amateur boxers.
