Needs
Youth Programming: To further our capacity and leverage local educational expertise, community assistance is needed in providing funding for current and future after-school programming. Needs for programming, supplies, equipment, and snacks are high need.
Adult Programming: Owenwood provides a variety of adult programming needs and, is needing the help of the community in funding for a very anticipated and requested computer lab which will give adults access to basic computer skills, job application assistance, resume building, and a variety of other needs.
Diaper Distribution: Every month, we help meet the basic needs of families with small children by distributing diapers in collaboration with Hope Supply Co. However, the need of the community is higher than the generous amount of donations we are receiving and funding is needed to purchase more monthly and sustain and continue the great work we are doing.
Senior Adults: Owenwood hosts a weekly no-cost “chair yoga” class for seniors and funding for our amazing and professional yoga instructor is appreciated in order to continue.
Transgender Empowerment Coalition: Owenwood provides a safe space for transgender and gender-expansive individuals to connect, therefore needing community support and allies in continuing with the coalition financially for the upcoming 2024 year.
Food Distribution: Our community is located in a “food desert” where residents have limited access to affordable and nutritious food. During bad weather days, we are forced to close and provide this service due to lack of weather coverage (such as a tent) and the deterioration of our parking lot which is in high need of a make-over.
Nonprofit Collaboration Hub: Owenwood houses onsite partners-in-residence to help meet broader community needs and avoid duplicating existing services. For example, Aspire provides early childhood education, ESL and GED classes, and workforce development, while Metrocare Services provides services for adults with Intellectual or Developmental Disabilities (IDD). GROW North Texas, Owenwood Farm produces organically-grown fruits and vegetables on half of an onsite acre to supplement our local food distribution for local families. The Community Garden includes beds for neighbors to plant, grow, and harvest their own food. In addition, we are developing a community-driven gathering and education space as part of the Garden. Community support in monetary donation or donation of supplies to help sustain these services are appreciated.
Community Events: Owenwood leads two annual community events amongst smaller families events. Our back-to-school bash provides school supplies and backpacks, the holiday bash provides toys and books, and our family fun nights provide a variety of different activities. Community support in monetary donation or donation of supplies to help sustain these services are appreciated.
