$10,000 Goal

Since its founding in 1996, HOPE Tutoring has delivered free, one-on-one tutoring to thousands of Arlington students in grades 2 through 8. Our main goal is that at least 75% of our students will see improved report card grades. Last year 88% of our students saw improvements in their grades.

At HOPE, our focus is on "Helping Our Pupils Excel." To that end, we partner with area churches, Arlington libraries, and Arlington ISD to bring individualized tutoring services to children in the high-poverty neighborhoods of East and Central Arlington. We also offer virtual tutoring to children.

Students from lower-income neighborhoods are in greatest need of tutoring and experience the greatest challenge in obtaining it. To that end, HOPE Tutoring also partners with Arlington ISD to bring tutoring directly to students within their classrooms during the school day. This program has seen dramatic improvements in the tutored students' confidence, classroom participation, and academic skills.

In addition to school-year tutoring, HOPE partners with UT Arlington to bring academic summer camps to Arlington children. Last year we held a STEM camp for junior high students and a reading and math camp for elementary school students. All of our students showed improvements in academic skills during our camps.

Our main objective is to improve student achievement in academics, but we also seek to provide positive impacts in other ways. Teachers and parents have noted that students tutored by HOPE also benefit from interacting with our fantastic volunteers who provide positive role models and build a sense of community for these children.

Our Needs

HOPE Tutoring has need for funding to cover on-campus and other in-person tutoring site management. We also need funding for summer camps, laptops/tablets for tutoring sessions, additional tutoring resources, and administrative overhead.

Also, volunteers are the heart and soul of HOPE Tutoring! We welcome members of the community to join us in our academic mentoring outreach. Training is provided!

Giving Activity

Mission

HOPE Tutoring seeks to empower disadvantaged 2nd-8th graders to reach their full academic potential through individual tutoring.

Needs

During the school year HOPE Tutoring needs help with the operational costs required to run our free individualized tutoring program. Our program requires tutoring resources, school supplies, and snacks for our students. We also incur staff expenses for direct site management during tutoring sessions, volunteer recruitment and training, student registration, program development, and direct program administrative support. During the summer, we need help providing student supplies and staffing for our free reading, math, and STEM camps.

Additional needs include updated tablets for our tutoring sites and an additional site management resource cart as we expand our services.
