United Community Centers

United Community Centers, Inc. is a non-profit organization providing services to empower individuals, strengthen families and enrich communities for 115 years. Each of our three community centers is located in a neighborhood where more than 90% of the population lives below the federal poverty average of $26,500 per family of four. We help families by addressing food insecurity and offering affordable after-school childcare for children from Pre-K to age 13. Our goal is to help children grow in all areas of life, including academics, physical health, social skills, and emotional awarness. 

UCC operates two core programs: the Client Assistance and Advocacy Program and the Education Literacy Program.

The Client Assistance and Advocacy Program provides help to those facing food insecurity by offering onsite food pantries and a once-a-month mobile food pantry at the Wesley Center. UCC's food pantries are open to all clients, regardless of income. Center Directors consider each person's situation and their family's needs and collaborate with clients to connect them with other agencies for extra support. 

Seasonal programs offered at our community centers include free tax preparation, financial literacy courses, ESL courses, access to school supplies, and holiday meals. Thanks to the generous support of the community, UCC successfully provided more than 450 holiday meals to families during November and December of 2022. 

UCC's unwavering dedication to enhancing literacy skills among children has resulted in the development of the Education Literacy Program (ELP). Our ELP is designed and continuously monitored to ensure every child receives personalized attention and exceptional care. What sets it apart from other afterschool programs in Fort Worth is our 13-year history of offering personalized assessments with literacy specialists.

ELP uses research-based curriculums emphasizing small group guided reading, daily messages and read-alouds, learning centers, word accuracy, fluency, and comprehension.
