The Coalition is a small, community based nonprofit organization which accomplishes its work by strategically collaborating with other partners in Tarrant County. With the support of devoted volunteers who are committed to improving adult literacy in our community, the Coalition impacts thousands of adult learners and their families each year through the programs and resources it provides to literacy students and the teachers, tutors and volunteers who provide instruction in programs throughout Tarrant County and surrounding areas. We offer literacy instruction, basic reading and writing tutoring (LEARN for Life) and help oversee English Language Acquisition/ESL classes and classes for the preparation for the US citizenship exam at Agape Baptist Church, where our offices are located, and we partner with WSISD to offer high school equivalency test preparation classes (Project BEST). Our Literacy and Learning program offers training and technical support to more than 300 community and faith based literacy providers, and hundreds of teachers, tutors, volunteers, and program administrators each year in Tarrant and surrounding counties. The bilingual Information and Referral Specialists who work in our Adult Education and Literacy Call Center (817-402-7555) help thousands of callers each year find adult literacy classes and other important resources to improve their education and build a better life for themselves and their families.
Our Needs
Because the Tarrant Literacy Coalition provides support services for adult literacy providers, students and their children, we always need school supplies, office supplies, gently used computers and computer supplies (no more than 4 years old, please) and recently published adult literacy materials, as well as books for children. Financial support to purchase these items is also always needed and greatly appreciated.
