The Yoruba Cultural Center is a 501 (C) 3 non-profit cultural organization that serves to promote Yoruba Culture and language. Our motto is “Imo isedale Yoruba” in the Yoruba language which is rendered in English as “Yoruba Knowledge and Heritage”. Our goal is to promote and disseminate the language, culture, traditions, and heritage of the Yoruba people amongst people of Yoruba origin and other people in the Dallas Fort Worth area and worldwide. We aim to promote and foster a strong sense of cultural identity, an understanding and love of the language, culture, traditions and heritage of the Yoruba people in the off-springs of persons of Yoruba origin and other affiliated and interested persons and groups, particularly African-Americans, in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and worldwide.

Our programs use classroom teaching, online and paper publications, website, social media posts, seminars, conferences, art exhibitions, museum exhibits, festivals, and other cultural activities, to achieve these objectives. Our programs include:

  1. Yoruba Art and Heritage Museum: To promote the history, culture, and heritage of the Yoruba people through temporary and permanent collections of artworks, artifacts and other exhibits both inside and outside the physical location of the Yoruba Art and Heritage Museum established by the Organization
  2. Yoruba Music, Theater and Dance: To provide education to members of the pubic regarding Yoruba dance, theater, and music, including the talking drum, as an addition to the Yoruba language school program.
  3. Yoruba Youth Group. To offer networking, professional development, and Yoruba cultural awareness and enlightenment to youth aged 12 to 18 years, and other young adults.
  4. Yoruba Health and Wellness. To provide public and medical health education and services to the community.
  5. Yoruba Family Affairs. To involve families (spouses, parents, and children) from the Yoruba community and other affiliated groups in the Dallas Fort Worth area, in activities that enhance their sense of belonging and awareness of the culture, language and history of the Yoruba people.
  6. Yoruba Language Classes. To provide education to members of the public so that individuals and groups may learn, adopt and understand Yoruba language, culture and customs through a standardized curriculum.
  7. Community Outreach. To embrace individuals and groups who are not Yoruba by birth, especially African Americans, who have an interest in learning about and becoming a part of the Yoruba cultural heritage.
  8. Yoruba Youth Scholarship. To provide monetary scholarship awards to college bound minority high school students, especially of Yoruba and African American origin, targeting those who are economically-disadvantaged through a diligent application and selection process.
  9. Yoruba STEAM Initiative. To offer mentoring and tutoring to young people of Yoruba origin and affiliated groups in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics.

Our amazing team of volunteers is dedicated to increasing knowledge and love for Yoruba Culture and Language within the rich cultural diversity of the African diaspora in the Dallas Forth area and worldwide.
